Avalon Guns has announced that Steph Davey has joined its team as a brand ambassador. Steph is a well-known freelance shooting instructor certified by both the CPSA (Clay Pigeon Shooting Association) and APSI (Association of Professional Shooting Instructors). Her vibrant presence and dedication to the sport have made her a familiar face at shooting grounds throughout the southwest. We are told that Steph’s mission to make shooting sports more inclusive, particularly for women, aligns perfectly with Avalon Guns’ values.
Steph’s journey into shooting began in a unique way. In 2015, she made a Christmas wish for an experience instead of a traditional gift. She chose an “Introduction to Shooting” lesson at a local shooting ground with her family. The experience was transformative. “I hit my first clay and I was hooked! The rest, as they say, is history,” she recalls. This initial thrill sparked a deep passion for shooting, leading her to pursue further lessons and hone her skills.
Recognising the gender disparity in shooting sports, Steph decided to become a qualified instructor to encourage more women to take up the sport. Her efforts have not only improved her own shooting abilities but also inspired many newcomers. “The one thing I realised early on is that there weren’t that many women shooters, so the idea came about of becoming an instructor with the aim to encourage more women into shooting,” Steph explains.
Operating out of Mendip Shooting Ground, Steph frequently uses the Avalon-backed store at the facility. Steph can now further help her clients with the support from Avalon Guns, whether it is buying their first gun, advice on cartridges or various bits of kit needed for the best possible shooting experience.
