Big Shots, the annual charity clay pigeon shoot organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company, has successfully raised £42,000, marking the largest amount ever recorded for this event. The fundraiser, now in its 29th year, was held at Holland & Holland in Northwood, Middlesex, a premier shooting destination in the UK.
The event, supported by Furniture Village, took place on Wednesday, 12 June and saw participation from approximately 150 individuals from leading companies such as Blum, Castelan Group, Emmiera Group, Harrison Spinks, Hypnos, Furniture Village, Ocee & Four Design and TCM Living. These participants formed 38 teams, contributing to the day’s success.
The proceedings began with a hearty breakfast, after which Jonny Westbrooke, CEO of The Furniture Makers’ Company, greeted the guests. The competition commenced with the firing of Holland & Holland’s antique cannon by the team from Emma Sleep, kicking off the 100-bird shooting event. Participants enjoyed a leisurely route around eight stands, manned by skilled gun stewards, within the 60 acres of the estate’s picturesque open countryside. After the competition, guests relaxed during a drinks reception followed by a sumptuous three-course meal in the clubhouse. The day concluded with a charity auction and raffle, and the shooting awards were presented by Brian Ahern, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company.
Jonny Westbrooke expressed his gratitude, stating, “Big Shots returned with a bang this year, raising the largest amount in recorded memory. Thank you also to everyone who joined us and made the day so memorable. We really appreciate all the sponsors who helped make the event a success, especially Furniture Village, our principal sponsor and event supporter.”
The event demonstrates the power of clay shooting as a vehicle for bringing together prominent brands and leveraging their collective influence to raise significant funds for charity. It showcases how an engaging and socially responsible activity like clay shooting can foster community and collaboration among businesses, ultimately leading to substantial charitable contributions.
